Gold Medal to TISS: Vaibhav’s Extraordinary Journey from Tragedy to Triumph

📅 May 25, 2026 🕐 3 min read ✍️ kapil wankhede

Vaibhav was born in the small village of Morachapur in Wardha district. His early childhood was marked by tragedy and hardship. At the age of just two, he lost both his parents in a devastating incident caused by severe domestic conflict within the family.

After this heartbreaking loss, his elder uncle brought him to Brahmanwada village in Wardha district. Despite living in poverty and already raising two sons of his own, his uncle gave Vaibhav shelter, care, and the love of a family.

Vaibhav completed his education up to 7th standard in the village school. To continue studying for 8th to 10th standard, he attended school in Wadhona — travelling nearly 15 kilometers every day. Alongside his studies, he worked during holidays to support his educational expenses, taking up farm labour or catering work whenever an opportunity arose.

After completing 10th standard, the COVID-19 pandemic brought even greater financial hardship. There were times when even basic food was difficult to arrange. His college was 30 kilometers away, making higher education even more challenging. Yet, Vaibhav successfully completed his 12th standard.

With a strong determination to study further, Vaibhav came to Wardha and approached Shivaji Chaudhari, requesting a place to stay at Aasamant Snehalaya. Understanding his difficult circumstances and his desire to pursue education, he was welcomed into the ashram.

A Transformation

When Vaibhav joined the ashram, he had taken admission in the BSW (Bachelor of Social Work) program. At that time, he struggled academically and even found it difficult to read Marathi fluently. However, the supportive environment of the ashram, along with continuous encouragement from mentors, gradually transformed his confidence and abilities.

Step by step, Vaibhav began improving in his studies. Through consistent hard work, he secured first rank in all six semesters of his BSW course — and earned the prestigious distinction of becoming the Gold Medalist of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University in the BSW program.

The mentors at Aasamant Snehalaya always encouraged him to dream beyond limitations. With their guidance and relentless effort, Vaibhav prepared for entrance examinations. His perseverance bore fruit when he was selected for the MSW (Master of Social Work) program at Tata Institute of Social Sciences, where he is currently pursuing his studies.

Vaibhav’s journey is a powerful example of how support, education, and determination can transform a life. From facing extreme hardship and uncertainty in childhood to achieving academic excellence, his story reflects the impact of compassion, opportunity, and unwavering perseverance.
