Sometimes, long observation itself leads to the strongest decisions.
Since the beginning, Aasamant Snehalaya enrolled children in government schools and encouraged them to attend classes regularly. But challenges arose quickly. Some children ran away in the middle of classes, while many struggled with addiction, trauma, emotional instability, and behavioral issues.
Most of these children came from extremely difficult backgrounds — roadside living, broken families, neglect, violence, and addiction-prone surroundings. For them, adjusting to the discipline of a regular classroom was not easy. Many had never experienced a stable environment or continuous education before coming to the ashram.
Still, one belief always remained strong within us — every child deserves education, dignity, and an opportunity to rebuild life.
These continuous challenges pushed the team to rethink the traditional schooling system. After years of observation, patience, and understanding their emotional and educational needs, Ashram Schooling was born.
What is Ashram Schooling?
Similar to home tuition, all classes are conducted within the ashram itself by appointed teachers. Instead of forcing children to immediately fit into a strict school environment, the focus first goes to rebuilding their confidence, concentration, discipline, and interest in learning.
Along with academics, equal attention is given to emotional well-being, daily routine, personal hygiene, communication skills, and social behavior. Teachers patiently work with every child according to their own learning capacity.
The Results
For the past year, this model has been consistently implemented — and the results have been extraordinary.
For a fourth-standard child from a slum background, understanding multiplication and division is a remarkable achievement. Children who earlier could not sit in one place for even fifteen minutes are now attending classes with focus and interest. Some have started reading Marathi and English confidently for the first time in their lives.
More than marks, the biggest achievement is the transformation in their attitude toward life. The same children who once ran away from classrooms are now slowly developing dreams for their future.
This journey reminds us that education is not only about books and classrooms — it is about patience, compassion, trust, and creating an environment where every child gets a fair chance to grow.
At Aasamant Snehalaya, we do not simply teach children. We help them believe that they are capable of learning, growing, and becoming responsible individuals in society.
