Annual Day Celebrations Bring Joy to Our Girls”

📅 February 18, 2026 ✍️ sarangumate08@gmail.com ⏱ 4 min read

The courtyard of Aasamant Snehalaya had never looked more alive. Colourful rangoli decorated the entrance, marigold strings hung from every doorway, and the sound of children laughing and rehearsing filled every corner of our home. February 10, 2026 was not just another day — it was the Annual Day celebration of Aasamant Snehalaya, and for our girls, it was the most important day of the year.

For many of these children — girls who came to us with nothing but the clothes on their backs — this day was a chance to shine. To be seen. To be celebrated. And they did not disappoint.

A Morning Full of Colour and Music

The programme began at 10:00 AM with the lighting of the traditional lamp by our founder, Shri. Shivaji Chaudhari, alongside members of our governing board and special guests from the Wardha district. The atmosphere was electric — parents, donors, volunteers, and well-wishers had gathered from across Maharashtra to witness the achievements of our children.

Our girls — ranging in age from 6 to 17 — performed a series of cultural programmes that left the audience in tears of joy. There were classical dance performances inspired by the folk traditions of Vidarbha, skits based on the life of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, and a beautiful group song that echoed the values of compassion and dignity that Aasamant Snehalaya stands for.

Academic Excellence Awards

One of the most moving moments of the day was the Academic Excellence Award ceremony. This year, seven girls were recognised for outstanding performance in their school examinations:

  • Priya Kamble (Class 10) — scored 91% in her SSC board exams
  • Sunita Meshram (Class 8) — ranked first in her school
  • Kavita Raut (Class 7) — won the district-level essay competition
  • Anita Bhagat (Class 5) — perfect attendance for the entire year
  • Three more girls were recognised for improvement, courage, and community spirit

As each girl walked up to receive her award, the applause from the audience grew louder. Several donors who have been supporting Aasamant Snehalaya for years wiped tears from their eyes — they had watched these very girls arrive at our doors frightened, malnourished, and alone. Seeing them confident, educated, and celebrated was proof that love and care can truly transform a life.

“When I first came here, I did not know how to read. Now I want to become a doctor. Aasamant Snehalaya gave me this dream.”

— Priya Kamble, Class 10 student, Aasamant Snehalaya

A Special Lunch and Gifts for Every Child

After the award ceremony, every child received a gift package — school supplies, a new set of clothes, and sweets — donated by our generous supporters. A special lunch was prepared with the children’s favourite dishes, and the afternoon was spent in free play, music, and laughter.

For children who have experienced abandonment and loss, these simple moments of joy are deeply significant. They are reminders that they are loved, that they belong, and that the world is full of people who care about them.

Words from Our Founder

Addressing the gathering, Founder Shri. Shivaji Chaudhari reflected on the journey of Aasamant Snehalaya and expressed his gratitude to every person who has made this work possible.

“These children did not choose the circumstances they were born into. But they have chosen — with courage and determination — to rise above them. Our role is simply to stand beside them, to give them shelter, love, and the tools they need. The rest, as you can see today, they do themselves. I am deeply grateful to every donor, every volunteer, and every well-wisher who makes this home possible.”

— Shri. Shivaji Chaudhari, Founder, Aasamant Snehalaya
